Hi Pinkertons. I oddly found you through an ask.com search about disrupting birth order. My family is in proces to adopt 2 children and we have 1 (bio) at home. All their birthdays are in July and they will be turning boy (in process) 4, boy (bio) 3, and girl (in process) 2. I know we're crazy to have these ages, but someone pushed my "concerned about birth order" button today, making me feel crazier than ever. SOOOO, I don't have time to read your entire blog, and was hoping you might email me some reassurance and maybe hints about helping the transition. We're adopting both kids (they're not siblings YET!) from Liberia, West Africa, where things are very "flexible" so we don't have any better timeline than to expect them home between July and December. Thanks for any advice you might have. :)

Too funny! Our 'newest' son is 9 and from Haiti as well. I think if he were given a choice, he would pick the same name. Jackie Chan is who got us through our first few months together. When our son was overwhelmed in our crazy house (6 bio kids) we would pop in a Jackie Chan video, and all would be right in the world.

I am really enjoying your blog!

My husband and I also wrestled with this decision for our 7 year old Haitian daughter and in the end, we decided to keep her name for many of the reasons you listed. We changed her younger brother's name (a baby) because it is a female name in the US, and we also changed our baby daughter's name because it referenced her special need (albinism) and we didn't want to saddle her with that. All this has made me realize that there is no "right" way to handle naming and that you have to look at each situation separately and rely on God and your gut. ;o) Roselene's name journey is certainly unique and I'm glad she finally has the name she really feels is hers.

Beautiful family, by the way!

Just found your blog, and hope you continue to chronicle your family life! Though as a mother of 7 myself, I know how limited time can be. We have 6 bio kids, and just brought our 7th, a 9yo boy, home from Haiti in December. I will agree with you, all these "firsts" are just amazing!
